Alaska is the largest state in the United States, covering approximately 665,384 square miles. This makes it over two and a half times larger than Texas, the second-largest state, and it constitutes about one-fifth of the total land area of the contiguous United States. Despite its vast size, Alaska has a low population density compared to other states. The size of Alaska is so large that it is more than four times the size of California and larger than many countries worldwide. The difference in size is also visually exaggerated on many maps due to map projection distortions.
