Hamad International Airport in Doha covers an area of about 22 to 36 square kilometers (approximately 3,600 hectares or 9,000 acres). It features a passenger terminal spanning around 600,000 square meters, making it one of Qatar's largest buildings. The airport initially has a capacity to serve 30 million passengers per year, with plans to expand this capacity to 50 million and beyond. Hamad International has two long runways, one of which is 4,850 meters long (the eighth longest in the world), enabling it to handle large aircraft and about 100 take-offs and landings per hour. The airport is about two-thirds the size of Doha city itself, with much of its land reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf.
