Fraser Island, now officially known as K’gari, is the world’s largest sand island. It spans roughly 184,000 hectares (about 1,840 square kilometers) and runs about 122–124 kilometers in length, with a maximum width around 22–25 kilometers at its widest point. This scale makes it larger than most islands and a distinctive feature of the Queensland coast north of Brisbane. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is part of the Fraser Coast Region.
