The Potomac River is on average about 24 feet (7.3 meters) deep. However, its depth varies significantly along its course. The deepest point of the Potomac River is approximately 107 feet (32.16 meters) deep , located near Morgantown, Maryland, in the tidal portion of the river just below Washington, D.C. Additionally, a navigable channel depth of 24 feet is maintained for about 108 miles of the river downstream from Washington, D.C. Upstream and in other sections, the depth can be much shallower, sometimes only 2 to 4 feet deep before it reaches those deeper parts.
