how deep to plant tulips

Tulips should generally be planted about three times as deep as the height of the bulb. For most tulip bulbs, this translates to a planting depth of around 5 to 7 inches (approximately 12 to 18 cm). Planting them too shallowly can make bulbs vulnerable to animals and weather, while planting too deeply may delay or inhibit flowering. The pointed end of the bulb should be facing upward when planted. After planting, water the bulbs deeply once to help them establish.
