Al Capone died on January 25, 1947, from cardiac arrest caused by complications related to a stroke and pneumonia. His health had been severely deteriorated due to late-stage syphilis, which affected his brain and led to mental and physical decline during and after his imprisonment. After his release from prison in 1939, he spent his last years secluded in his Florida estate with the mental capacity of a 12-year-old child before passing away at age 48.
