Anne Frank died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early 1945, most likely in February or March. The exact date of her death is unknown, but it is widely believed she died from typhus, a disease that caused an epidemic in the camp and killed thousands of inmates. Witnesses have reported that Anne was delirious and burning with fever from typhus before she died shortly after her sister Margot, who succumbed first. The conditions in Bergen-Belsen were extremely harsh, with little food, poor sanitation, overcrowding, and rampant disease. Anne was only 15 years old when she died. Her death occurred weeks before the camp was liberated by British forces in April 1945. Anne’s diary, saved by friends, was published after the war by her father Otto Frank and became one of the world's most famous personal accounts of the Holocaust.
