Big L died after being shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in his hometown of Harlem on February 15, 1999. He was struck nine times in the face and chest at 45 West 139th Street. One of his childhood friends, Gerard Woodley, was arrested but later released due to lack of evidence. It is believed the shooting might have been retaliation related to something involving Big L's brother, but the case remains unresolved to this day.
