how did ed gein die

Ed Gein died on July 26, 1984, at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison, Wisconsin. His cause of death was respiratory failure secondary to lung cancer. He was 77 years old at the time of his death and remained institutionalized until then, having been found not guilty by reason of insanity for his crimes and confined to psychiatric facilities for most of his life after arrest.
