Ricky Hatton, the former world boxing champion, died by suicide. The provisional cause of death was hanging, as disclosed during an inquest held at the South Manchester Coroner's Court. Hatton was found unresponsive at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, 2025, by his manager Paul Speak. Prior to this, Hatton had appeared to be well when last seen by his family on September 12 but missed an event on September 13. He was scheduled to promote a comeback fight in Dubai later in the year. Hatton's family acknowledged his well-documented struggles with depression, substance abuse, and alcohol, and despite looking forward to the future and a planned fight comeback, he tragically died before it could happen. The inquest into his death has been adjourned until March 2026.
