To know your IP address, there are several simple methods:
- You can visit websites that show your IP address automatically, such as showmyip.com or 2ip.io. These sites display your public IP address right when you open them in a browser.
- On Windows, you can open the Command Prompt (search "cmd" in the Start menu), then type the command
ipconfig /all
and press Enter. Your IP address will appear as the IPv4 address under your network adapter information. - For quick checking on Google, just type "My IP" and it will show your IP address, usually the IPv6 if supported by your network.
The IP address you see can be either IPv4 (a series of four numbers separated by dots) or IPv6 (a longer series with colons). Your public IP is the one assigned by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and it is used to identify your connection on the internet. Your device may also have a local IP address used within your home or local network. If you want to find your IP address easily, using an IP lookup website or the Command Prompt on Windows is recommended depending on your device.
