Marine One, the presidential helicopter, is transported primarily using large military cargo aircraft such as the C-17 Globemaster and the C-5 Galaxy. These aircraft can carry multiple Marine One helicopters; for example, a C-17 can hold two VH-60N or VH-3D helicopters, while a C-5 Galaxy can carry up to six. Because the helicopter rotors are too wide to fit inside a plane as-is, they are removed and the helicopters are sometimes folded for efficient transport. Along with the helicopters, other presidential vehicles like the limousine are also transported via these cargo planes when the president travels long distances domestically or internationally. Upon arrival at the destination, the helicopters are carefully unloaded, inspected, and prepared for use.
