To deactivate a Facebook account in 2025, follow these steps:
- Open the Facebook app on your phone or go to facebook.com on a browser.
- Tap the menu icon (three lines) — on mobile, it's usually at the bottom right, and on desktop at the top right.
- Tap your profile name to ensure your personal profile is selected.
- Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- From Settings, select "Account Center" or "See More" then "Account Center."
- Tap "Personal details" and then "Account ownership and control."
- Select "Deactivation or deletion."
- Choose the Facebook account you want to deactivate.
- Select "Deactivate account" and then "Continue."
- Enter your password and continue with the deactivation process.
Your Facebook account will be temporarily deactivated. Your profile will be hidden, but you can reactivate anytime by logging back in. Messenger will still work while your account is deactivated. This process keeps your data intact in case you want to return later but hides your profile from others during the deactivation period.
