- Windows Search : Click the search bar on the taskbar or press Win + S, then type the program's name and press Enter to open it
- Run Dialog : Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type the program’s executable name (e.g.,
winword.exe
for Microsoft Word), and press Enter
- Task Manager : Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Click "File" > "Run new task," type the program name or browse to its executable file, and click OK
- File Explorer : Press Win + E to open File Explorer, navigate to the program’s installation folder (usually in "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)"), and double-click the executable file to run it
- Command Prompt or PowerShell : Open Command Prompt or PowerShell, type
start programname.exe
(replace with the actual executable name), and press Enter to launch the program
- Pinning to Taskbar or Start : Once you find the program via Start or search, you can right-click it and select "Pin to taskbar" or "Pin to Start" for easier future access without desktop icons
For macOS
- Open the Finder from the Dock, go to the "Applications" folder, and double-click the program to open it
For Linux
- Use the "Applications" or "Activities" menu to browse or search for the program and click it to open
These methods ensure you can launch programs even if desktop icons are missing or hidden, maintaining efficient access to your applications
