On a Mac, screenshots can be taken using several keyboard shortcuts:
- Press Shift + Command + 3 to capture the entire screen. The screenshot will be saved as a file on your desktop.
- Press Shift + Command + 4 to capture a selected portion of the screen. The cursor turns into a crosshair that you can drag to select the area to capture.
- Press Shift + Command + 4, then press Spacebar to capture a specific window. The cursor changes to a camera icon; click on the window to screenshot it.
- Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot app panel with options to capture the entire screen, a window, or a portion, and record video.
- If your Mac has a Touch Bar, press Shift + Command + 6 to capture its content.
After taking a screenshot, a thumbnail may appear in the screen corner for quick editing or further options. Screenshots are usually saved to the desktop by default but can be changed in the Screenshot app options.
