To share a note on an iPhone, you have two main options: sending a copy of the note or collaborating on it in real time via iCloud.
How to Send a Copy of a Note
- Open the Notes app on your iPhone.
- Select the note you want to share.
- Tap the Share icon (a square with an upward arrow).
- Choose Send Copy.
- Select how you want to send the note (e.g., Messages, Mail, AirDrop).
This sends a static copy, so any changes you make afterward won't update the shared copy
How to Collaborate on a Note or Folder (Live Editing)
- Make sure the note is saved in your iCloud Notes folder (notes saved "On My iPhone" cannot be shared for collaboration).
- Open the note or folder you want to share.
- Tap the Share icon.
- Select Collaborate.
- Choose how to send the invitation (Messages, Mail, etc.).
- Set permissions:
- Who can access: "Only invited people" or "Anyone with the link."
- Permissions: "Can make changes" or "View only."
- Optionally allow participants to invite others.
- Send the invitation.
Participants must be signed in with their Apple ID and have Notes enabled in iCloud. Everyone invited can see changes in real time, and you can track who made edits
Additional Tips
- You can share entire folders for collaboration, which shares all notes inside.
- To stop sharing, tap the participant icons at the top of the note and remove access.
- Collaboration is not supported on locked notes or folders containing locked notes
