PitchCom works as a wireless communication system used in baseball to let players request pitches without visible signals, mainly to deter sign stealing and speed up the game. The catcher or sometimes the pitcher wears a device with nine buttons representing pitch types and locations. When a button combination is pressed, it sends a highly encrypted direct radio signal to receivers worn by the pitcher and selected fielders, which then play a voice message in their chosen language indicating the pitch and location. The system uses a direct 915 MHz radio connection rather than relying on cellular or WiFi networks, ensuring fast and reliable communication. The device stores mp3 audio tracks for signals and is designed to transmit signals instantly, allowing coaches to send very precise instructions quickly and securely. Players do not have to rely on memorizing complex hand signals, and the communication happens simultaneously to everyone with a receiver, minimizing confusion and errors on the field. PitchCom was adopted by Major League Baseball starting in 2022 and has been refined for volume, clarity, and reliability through practical use in games.
