A grizzly bear can run at speeds of about 35 miles per hour (56 kilometers per hour). This speed allows them to quickly overtake prey or evade threats despite their large size and seemingly lumbering appearance. They can maintain speeds between 25 to 28 mph for longer distances. For comparison, Usain Bolt, the fastest human sprinter, reaches about 27.8 mph at his peak, which is still slower than a grizzly bear’s sprint.
