The Dally M Medal is decided through a voting system involving two independent, unnamed judges selected from a panel of former players. Each judge watches every regular season game of the NRL and awards votes on a 3-2-1 basis—3 votes for the best player, 2 for the second-best, and 1 for the third- best in that match. This means a player can receive a maximum of 6 votes per match. Votes are publicly released up to Round 12 of the season, after which voting is kept confidential until the awards ceremony. The player with the highest total votes at the end of the regular season wins the Dally M Medal. Additionally, players suspended for two or more matches in the season become ineligible, and suspended players lose 3 points per week of suspension. Separate voting also occurs for the Dally M Team of the Year based on positional performances throughout the season.
