A game of AFL (Australian Football League) officially lasts for 80 minutes of playing time, divided into four quarters of 20 minutes each. However, due to stoppages known as "time-on" (for injuries, goals, throw-ins, etc.), the actual duration of each quarter extends to about 25 to 30 minutes in real- time. Including the breaks between quarters (two 6-minute breaks after the first and third quarters and a 20-minute halftime break), a full AFL game typically lasts around two and a half to three hours from start to finish.
