WIC benefits last for different lengths of time depending on the participant category:
- Pregnant women are certified for WIC benefits up to 6 weeks after their estimated delivery date.
- Breastfeeding women can receive benefits for up to 1 year after their baby is born, as long as they continue breastfeeding.
- Non-breastfeeding postpartum women are eligible for benefits for 6 months after delivery.
- Infants added before 6 months of age are certified until their first birthday.
- Infants added after 6 months of age and children are typically certified for 6 months at a time.
- Families can receive WIC benefits for their children until the child turns 5 years old.
Certification periods usually range from 6 months to 1 year, after which reapplication is required to continue benefits if eligibility remains
