The last ice age, also known as the Last Glacial Period, lasted from about 115,000 years ago to approximately 11,700 years ago. This period corresponds to most of the Late Pleistocene Epoch and ended with the start of the current warm geological epoch called the Holocene. Within this timespan, there were alternating episodes of glacier advance and retreat, with the peak glaciation (Last Glacial Maximum) occurring roughly between 26,000 and 20,000 years ago. Thus, the last ice age lasted for roughly 103,000 years.
