As a result of mitosis, two genetically identical daughter cells are formed from one parent cell. Each mitotic division produces exactly two cells. If a cell divides multiple times by mitosis, the total number of cells formed is 2n2^n2n, where nnn is the number of divisions. For example, after one mitotic division, two cells are formed; after six divisions, 64 cells are formed. But a single mitotic division always results in two new cells.
