King Solomon is recorded in scripture to have had four known children: one son named Rehoboam and three daughters named Menelik I, Taphath, and Basemath. Rehoboam succeeded Solomon as king. There is some speculation and legend, such as the claim in the Kebra Nagast that he had a son with the Queen of Sheba (Menelik I), and questions why a man with hundreds of wives (700 wives and 300 concubines) would have so few recorded children. However, the biblical texts only explicitly name these four children. It is possible that Solomon had more children who were not documented or that political and religious factors influenced the recorded lineage. The Bible does not provide a comprehensive list of all his offspring, which makes the exact number uncertain beyond the named children.
