To graduate from high school in Kentucky, a student must earn a minimum of 22 credits. These credits are divided into:
- 10 foundational credits , which include:
- English I and II
- Algebra I and Geometry
- Social Studies (2 credits)
- Science (2 lab-based credits)
- Health (half credit)
- Physical Education (half credit)
- Visual/Performing Arts (1 credit)
- Civics Literacy requirement
- Demonstration of performance-based competency in technology
- 12 personalized credits , aligned with the student’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP), which can include additional courses in English, math, social studies, science, and various electives.
Additionally, starting with the 2025-2026 school year, students must successfully complete a half-credit course in civic literacy or pass a civics test as part of the graduation requirements.
