In addition to those who died on the day of the attacks, many first responders have since died from illnesses related to their exposure to toxins at Ground Zero. Over 360 FDNY members have died from 9/11-related illnesses, surpassing the number who died on the day itself. Similarly, 377 members of the NYPD have died from such illnesses, far exceeding the 23 officers who died on 9/11
