The MLB Wild Card Series consists of a best-of-three games format. Each Wild Card matchup is played as a best-of-three series, with the higher-seeded team hosting all the games. The winner of the series advances to the Division Series in the postseason. This format applies to each Wild Card Series in both the American and National Leagues, with four matchups (two per league) in total in the Wild Card round. Hence, each Wild Card Series has a maximum of three games and a minimum of two games if one team wins the first two games consecutively.
