There were four government shutdowns under President Trump. The first took place in January 2018 for three days over a dispute involving protections for Dreamers under DACA. The second was a brief shutdown of a few hours in February 2018 caused by a Senate vote delay. The third shutdown, and the longest in U.S. history, lasted 35 days from December 2018 to January 2019, triggered by a stalemate over funding for a border wall. The most recent, the fourth shutdown, began on October 1, 2025, after Congress failed to authorize new spending by the deadline.
