how many innings are in baseball

A traditional professional baseball game consists of 9 innings. Each inning is divided into two halves: the top half where the visiting team bats and the home team plays defense, and the bottom half where the home team bats and the visiting team plays defense. If the game is tied after the 9 innings, extra innings are played until one team leads after a completed inning. Different levels of play such as high school or youth leagues may have fewer innings, typically 6 or 7 innings for those levels.
