Terry Fox ran a total of 5,373 kilometers (3,339 miles) during his Marathon of Hope. He ran close to 42 kilometers (26 miles) a day and was forced to stop after 143 days due to the return of cancer in his lungs, outside Thunder Bay, Ontario.
