However, linguistic research sources like Ethnologue list 129 living languages in Nepal. Most of these languages belong to several language families including Indo-European, Sino-Tibetan, Austro-Asiatic, Dravidian, and a language isolate called Kusunda. Nepali is the official language and the most widely spoken language in the country.
