Nigeria is home to over 500 languages, with estimates commonly around 520 to 530 native languages spoken across the country. This makes Nigeria one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. The official language is English, but there are hundreds of indigenous languages, including widely spoken ones like Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. Nigerian Pidgin, an English-based creole, is also widely spoken as a lingua franca by tens of millions of people. Besides the main language groups, Nigeria also has sign languages used by certain communities.
