Nigeria has a total of 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs), which serve as the third tier of government below the federal and state levels. These LGAs are spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Each LGA is administered by a local government council, consisting of an Executive Chairman and other elected councilors. This number (774 LGAs) is recognized by the Nigerian constitution and remains current as of 2025.
