Jack the Ripper is generally believed to have killed five women, known as the "canonical five" victims. These murders occurred between August and November 1888 in the Whitechapel district of London. The canonical five victims are Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. Although there were other murders in the area around that time (a total of eleven Whitechapel murders), most experts agree that only these five were directly the work of Jack the Ripper. There is some speculation that he may have killed more than these five, possibly including Martha Tabram and a few others, but the consensus remains on five confirmed victims. The killer was never caught, and many details remain uncertain.
