The official death toll of the September 11, 2001 attacks was 2,977 people, not including the 19 terrorists who hijacked the planes. This number includes 2,606 people who died at the World Trade Center and surrounding area, 184 who died at the Pentagon, and 265 people on the four planes that were hijacked. Among the dead were civilians, firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and others from over 90 countries.
