Nearly 3,000 people died during the September 11, 2001 (9/11) terrorist attacks. The total number of deaths, including the 19 hijackers, was 2,996. The breakdown is approximately:
- 2,606 people died in the World Trade Center complex in New York City.
- 125 people were killed at the Pentagon.
- 265 people died on the four hijacked planes.
- Among the victims were 343 firefighters, 72 law enforcement officers, 55 military personnel, and civilians from over 90 countries.
