At least 118 pyramids have been identified in Egypt. These pyramids were primarily built as tombs for the pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods. The number of pyramids includes well-known ones such as the Great Pyramid of Giza and many others scattered across different pyramid fields in Egypt. Some pyramids are in poor condition or buried by desert sands, so archaeologists are still discovering and studying new pyramid structures.
