There are estimated to be between 1% and 2% of the world's population with natural red hair. This translates to approximately 70 to 140 million people globally having red hair. The highest concentrations of redheads are found in Northern and Western Europe, particularly in Scotland and Ireland, where the prevalence can be as high as 6-13% in Scotland and around 10% in Ireland. In absolute numbers, the United States likely has the largest population of redheads because of its large overall population, with estimates of up to 18 million redheads in the US. Outside of Europe, red hair is much rarer, occurring in only about 0.06% of people in some regions.
