An adult dog typically has 42 teeth in total. These consist of 20 teeth in the upper jaw and 22 teeth in the lower jaw. The types of teeth include 12 incisors, 4 canines, 16 premolars, and 10 molars. Puppies, on the other hand, have 28 baby (deciduous) teeth which begin appearing around 3-4 weeks of age and are replaced by adult teeth by around 6 months of age.
