The xylem tissue is made up of four types of elements. These are:
- Tracheids - long, narrow tubular dead cells with pits for water conduction.
- Vessel elements - large tubular cells with thickened walls that form vessels to conduct water.
- Xylem parenchyma - living cells that store food and help in lateral transport of water.
- Xylem fibres - supportive dead cells that provide mechanical strength to the tissue.
These four cell types work together to transport water and minerals, provide structural support, and store food within the plant.
