The recommended dosage of Nurofen (which contains ibuprofen) depends on age and weight:
- For adults and children over 30 kg (about 11-12 years and older), the usual dose is 1 to 2 tablets of 200 mg each every 6 hours if needed. The maximum dose should not exceed 6 tablets per day, equal to 1200 mg of ibuprofen daily.
- For children weighing 20 to 30 kg (about 6 to 11 years), 1 tablet (200 mg) can be given, repeated every 6 hours if necessary, with a maximum of 3 tablets per day (600 mg).
- Nurofen should not be used for more than 3 days for fever or 5 days for pain without consulting a doctor.
- The tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably during meals.
- For children under 6 months, use should be determined by a healthcare professional.
Adults and children over 30 kg should not exceed 1200 mg of ibuprofen in 24 hours using Nurofen tablets.
