The Athletics World Championships are held every two years. Originally, they were held every four years when they started in 1983, but since 1991, the championships have taken place biennially to avoid clashing with the Olympic Games, which occur every four years in even years. The World Athletics Championships are thus scheduled in odd years, with the next events in 2025 in Tokyo and 2027 in Beijing.
