The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. It is presented each year on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. The prize is given to a person or organization that has done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, or the holding and promotion of peace congresses. The award ceremony takes place in Oslo, Norway, and the prize includes a medal, diploma, and a monetary award. The prize has been awarded almost every year since 1901, with a few exceptions mostly during times of war or extraordinary circumstances.
