A lunar eclipse occurs on average about two times every year. However, the number of lunar eclipses can range from two to five in a year, with the maximum being five lunar eclipses, which is quite rare. Total lunar eclipses happen approximately every 2.5 years in any given location, accounting for about 35% of all lunar eclipses. Partial lunar eclipses tend to occur about once a year or once every two years on average.
