The FIFA Club World Cup was originally held annually from 2005 until 2023. Starting in 2025, the tournament has been redesigned and expanded to feature 32 teams and is now held every four years, similar to the FIFA World Cup for national teams. The new quadrennial format began with the 2025 edition in the United States. The next scheduled tournament after 2025 is expected to be in 2029. There is also discussion about possibly moving to a biennial (every two years) format after 2029, but this has not yet been finalized.
