Cats generally do not need frequent bathing because they groom themselves effectively. However, most cats should be bathed every 4 to 6 weeks if needed to keep their coat clean and healthy. Hairless cat breeds require more frequent baths, roughly once a week, due to their lack of fur and excess oil on their skin. Bathing is especially necessary if the cat gets into substances harmful to their fur or skin or has skin conditions that require medicated baths. Older, overweight, or long-haired cats might also need more regular bathing or grooming assistance. Excessive bathing is not recommended as it can dry out their skin and remove natural oils.
