Pepto-Bismol can be taken as follows:
- For adults and children 12 years and older, the usual dose is:
- 30 mL liquid or 2 tablets every 30 to 60 minutes as needed.
- Do not take more than 8 doses (e.g., 240 mL liquid or 16 tablets) in 24 hours.
- You can take Pepto-Bismol for up to 2 days. Do not take it for more than 2 days as this increases the risk of side effects.
- If symptoms are not better or worsen after 2 days, consult your doctor.
- Pepto-Bismol can be taken with or without food.
- When treating diarrhea, drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
This dosing applies for treating occasional heartburn, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, or upset stomach. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible unless it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not double doses. In summary, take one dose every 30 to 60 minutes as needed, up to a maximum of 8 doses per day, not exceeding 2 days usage without medical advice.
