Albuterol inhaler is typically used as needed for relief of asthma or bronchospasm symptoms. The usual adult and children (4 years and older) dose is 1 or 2 puffs every 4 to 6 hours as needed. For prevention of exercise- induced bronchospasm, 2 puffs are taken 15 to 30 minutes before exercise. The maximum recommended usage is not to exceed 12 puffs in 24 hours. If the inhaler is needed more than 4 times in 24 hours or regularly on 3 or more days a week, it may indicate worsening of the condition and a need for different or additional treatment. During sudden asthma attacks, up to 10 puffs can be used with spacing of 30 to 60 seconds between puffs. Always follow the doctor's instructions and do not exceed the prescribed dose.
