Amoxicillin usually starts working within a few hours , but most people don’t notice symptom relief until 24 to 72 hours after the first dose. For some infections, it can take a few days longer to feel much better, even though the antibiotic is already acting against the bacteria.
What to expect
- Within hours: the medicine begins reaching effective levels in the body.
- 1–3 days: many people start to notice improvement in fever, pain, or other symptoms.
- Up to 4–5 days: some infections take longer before symptoms clearly improve.
When to get help
If you’re not feeling any better after 48–72 hours , or symptoms are getting worse, it’s a good idea to contact the prescriber, because the infection may need reassessment or a different treatment.
Important note
Even if you feel better quickly, it’s important to finish the full course exactly as prescribed so the infection is fully treated and resistance risk is reduced.
