Most women can reliably take a pregnancy test about 12 to 16 days after ovulation for accurate results. Pregnancy hormone (hCG) begins to be produced only after the fertilized egg implants in the uterus, which usually happens around 7 to 10 days after ovulation. Testing too early, before implantation or before hCG levels are high enough, can lead to false negatives. Some early detection tests claim to detect pregnancy a few days earlier, but the best balance of early detection and accuracy is typically around 14 days post- ovulation or after a missed period.
